Utopia @ Epicentro Art Space

The opening exhibition of the Showroom Mile 2010 is entitled “... how nice without utopia?” and uses select pieces to thematize the outlooks, perspectives and utopias of textile design. The focus lies equally on an analysis of trends and their realization in textile design. Among the artists involved is Gregor Hohn, recipient of the “Innovationspreis textil+mode 2009,” an innovation award handed out by Germany’s Gesamtverband der deutschen Textil- und Modeindustrie. Hohn’s work: a therapeutic-active wound compress that features a drug-delivery function. “... how nice without utopia?”is also a joint exhibition with Berlin’s Deutsche Guggenheim. Parallel to the presentation of Annette Kölling’s models at the Deutsche Guggenheim, the Epicentro Art Space will show textile design works by Christian Dietsch and Hiroyuki Murase, Gregor Hohn, Elisabeth Holzer, Clara Schober, Isabel Vollrath and Annette Kölling. Both exhibitions present their pieces in a manner that enables them to formulate utopia to reality.

“Reanimation – Wiederbelebungsmaßnahmen” by >>schmidttakahashi<<

In their exhibition entitled “REANIMATION–WIEDER-
BELEBUNGS-MASSNAHMEN,” the designer duo known as >>schmidt-takahashi<< will breathe new life into outmoded clothing. By wearing them over and over, clothing items tend to become a part of our body and our identity. This personal character of clothing lives on in fashion. The collection by >>schmidttakahashi<< consists of used pieces of clothing that have been taken apart and reassembled anew. The result is a series of completely new outfits that nevertheless retain and show individual traces of their previous owners. A microchip is sewn into each item of clothing and provides an extensive description of its various components. The exhibition will also include a collection bin for used clothing to be utilized in future designs.
