Design Diplomacy: Ervin Latimer (FIN) & Perret Schaad (DE)

Side event

Thursday 18.01.2018

Design Diplomacy presents young fashion designers from Finland and Berlin in an inspirational talk. Designers Ervin Latimer (FIN) and Perret Schaad (DE) meet in a new card game, in which playful and intelligent questions challenge both the speakers and the audience to reflect upon design as a part of intercultural exchange.

The Finnish fashion designer Ervin Latimer describes himself as “fashion designer and creative human”. He is based in Helsinki and New York and currently studying fashion, textile and collection design at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture Master of Arts program. His focus is on fashion and menswear design, but his work and interests extend to art and exhibition production, fashion styling and other creative work.

Perret Schaad was established in 2009 by Johanna Perret and Tutia Schaad. Inspired by modern women and their lifestyles, the Berlin-based fashion duo’s pieces show a unique sensibility for colours, a strong focus on details and an interest in creating outstanding, yet wearable designs. Their approach is defined by respect for traditional handcraft and technique along with an irrepressible desire to redefine the rules.

Design Diplomacy is organized by the Embassy of Finland in cooperation with Helsinki Design Week. Since 2016, designers from different countries have engaged in discussions on their sources of inspiration, role models and highs and lows of their professional career. The events is only for invited guests.
