About Berlin Fashion Week
Twice a year, the Berlin Fashion Week transforms Germany’s capital into an international stage for fashion and lifestyle. Fashion buyers, industry professionals and media representatives meet at fashion shows, awards shows and fashion fairs, while also finding time to attend exhibitions and off-site events. Among the highlights of the Berlin Fashion Week in July 2010 are the shows of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin on Bebelplatz at the heart of the city. Other highlights include the Premium fashion fair at STATION-BERLIN, the 5 elements.berlin lingerie and bodywear fair, the thekey.to event for environmentally friendly and sustainable fashion and the Showfloor Berlin shows at the Umspannwerk in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg. The Bread & Butter Berlin will take place once again at Berlin’s former Tempelhof Airport, and this season’s Berlin Fashion Week will also feature the Bright streetwear fair, which just made the move from Frankfurt to Berlin.
On June 24, 2010, Berlin’s governing mayor, Klaus Wowereit, will officially open the Dysfashional and bodiesInmotion exhibitions at Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt. DYSFASHIONAL and bodiesInmotion are two projects resulting from the Berlin-Paris partner-city relationship and both showcase the innovative collaboration of German and French artists working at the meeting point of fashion, fine art and dance. The DYSFASHIONAL and bodiesInmotion exhibitions will be open to the public starting on July 17, 2010.
The Showroom Mile, an initiative of the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Women’s Issues in cooperation with Berlin-based companies and institutions, is organized by Gruppo del Café Palermo and had its premiere in July 2008. The idea behind the project is to give Berlin-based fashion designers – as well as national and international artists – a chance to show their current collections, designs and projects to a wider public. Well-known Berlin locations act as the showrooms for these presentations.
The Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Women’s Issues and the Berlin Partner GmbH business development agency have been supporting the events of the Berlin Fashion Week since 2007. While the senate department co-finances individual events and organizes the Showroom Mile together with Gruppo del Café Palermo, Berlin Partner showcases the capital city as an emerging European fashion metropolis and strategic business location.
