Lou de Bètoly

ABOUT THE LABEL

Lou de Bètoly is a Berlin-based label founded by the French designer. After graduating in fashion design in Paris in 2006, de Bètoly worked for Jean Paul Gaultier before settling in Berlin to create her own label. Lou de Bètoly combines elegance with extravagance, fragility with chaos, innovation with nostalgia, with a strong focus on sustainability through upcycling and local artisanal production. The label works exclusively with vintage and dead stock textiles sourced from flea markets and partners in Europe. These are meticulously reworked by the designer herself and transformed from waste material into unique haute couture pieces. Traditional techniques such as embroidery, knitting, draping and weaving are combined with a forward-thinking sensibility for contemporary aesthetics. The label also offers repairs and bespoke pieces - seen on celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Rosalía and Beyoncé.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Lou de Bètoly presented the collection for her label with the same name the vacant premises of the former Habitat furniture store at Potsdamer Platz. Black foil formed the dystopian backdrop for the French designer's powdery lingerie-inspired looks.

At the core of the new collection are illusion and distortion, with many looks challenging reality perception. Skirts made from bras and leather coats turned into bags reinterpret classic couture and reflect the label's upcycling principle. One look creates the illusion of denim but is actually crocheted from yarn and sequins.

The collection combines vintage materials like leather and mohair with nylon textiles from deadstock and wool spun from recycled dog hair waste. Lou de Bètoly's characteristic handcrafting techniques transform these second-hand materials into tactile luxury garments with a unique twist. Fabrics work together to distort texture and shape, offering a range of silhouettes, from delicate, form-fitting lace dresses to fluffy dresses and distorted coats.
